No, an endoscopy is not generally painful. At City Gastro Care, it is performed under local pharyngeal anesthesia spray or mild sedation to ensure you remain relaxed and comfortable. You may feel mild pressure for a few minutes, but no sharp pain.
How long does the endoscopy procedure take?
The actual diagnostic upper GI endoscopic examination takes only 10 to 15 minutes. However, you should plan to spend around 45 to 60 minutes at the clinic for pre-procedure preparation, brief post-procedure observation, and receiving your printed report and consultation.
Do I need to come on an empty stomach for an endoscopy?
Yes. For an upper GI endoscopy, you must fast (no solid food, milk, coffee, or liquids) for at least 8 to 10 hours prior to the procedure so your stomach is completely clear for a safe and accurate view.
